Egg Carton Chimes

We eat a lot of eggs. And I'1000 a collector, so therefore I have an alluvion pile of egg cartons. Even worse, they are in my living room (where I teach art classes). So I exercise try and work my ever-growing pile of recycled materials into my fine art projects. Not simply because they are cost-gratis, but as well considering it keeps me thinking creatively. (Also, behemothic bins of recyclables in living rooms aren't necessarily bonny.)

These chimes are and so beautiful in real life. I'one thousand not sure these photos do them justice because they are so rich and vibrant in color. I added some opalescent paint to the colors and so they literally shimmer!

Supplies:

~ egg cartons

~ liquid watercolors (I as well added a niggling metallic pearl to each color) + small containers to put them in (I used plastic egg cartons!)

~ q-tips

~ wooden chaplet (round or assorted)

~ bells

~ yarn (this assorted pack is cute and perfect for just a few crafts)

Procedure:

Footstep one: Cut out each individual egg carton and trim to private domes. This part doesn't accept as long as you think. The egg cartons are not besides hard to cutting. Each child used well-nigh 6 or seven domes.

Step two: Paint the domes and the beads using the q-tips. You can also only utilize a paint brush. I put out the q-tips considering they are short and won't fall out of the shallow plastic egg carton cups.

Step 3: Afterward the domes are dry, dial a hole in the top. I actually used a thick blast and pushed it in from the top and wiggled information technology around.

Step 4: Cutting a piece of yarn and add together some tape to the ends, and then it'southward similar a shoelace. This will make threading a whole lot easier.

Pace v: Thread the pieces together. Nosotros put our bells only inside our domes, so added a few chaplet. Then repeat.

I wish I had thought of taking a little moving picture prune of the jingly audio these make. The kids were super happy with them, and so proud to bear witness their parents.
